Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for a J-1 Intern or Trainee program, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- Be currently enrolled in a non-U.S. higher education institution.
- Have graduated from a non-U.S. higher education institution within the past 12 months.
- Hold a non-U.S. degree and have at least 1 year of related full-time work experience outside the U.S.
- Have at least 5 years of related full-time work experience outside the U.S.
In all cases, the internship or training must be directly related to your academic background and/or professional experience.
J-1 Visa Application Process

1. Eligibility Assessment

Time: Two (2) business days
Complete the eligibility form. Once submitted, we schedule a call with you to assess your eligibility for the J-1 program and answer any questions you have.
2. Documents Submission
by you & the host company
Time: Depends on how quickly you and your host company provide the required documents
We send you a list of the documents and information required to process your application. We also contact your host company to collect the necessary information and supporting documentation.
3. Application Review & Preparation
by USponsor Me
Time: Five (5) business days
We review all submitted information and documents, prepare the complete application package, including the DS-7002, and submit it to the sponsor.
4. Final Approval & DS-2019 Issuance
by the sponsor & USponsor Me
Time: Four (4) business days (plus two additional days if an on-site visit is required)
Our designated sponsor partner reviews and validates the application, conducts an on-site visit if required, issues the DS-2019, and authorizes SEVIS participation. USponsor Me coordinates the process and manages the participant’s SEVIS registration.
5. Visa Issuance
by the U.S. embassy/consulate
Time: Depends on embassy appointment availability
You complete the DS-160 form and schedule a visa interview at the U.S. embassy or consulate. If approved, your J-1 visa is issued, allowing you to begin your training or internship program in the United States.
