We will verify that the host company meets J-1 program requirements, including stability, a dedicated workspace, and qualified supervision, to ensure a successful J-1 program.
- Active business license/registration
- At least one year of continuous operation (or a track record in the industry) with at least 5 employees, OR a subsidiary supported by an international holding
- Adequate infrastructure (office space, equipment, technology) to support the training
The training should be in one of those occupational categories:
- Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing
- Arts and Culture
- Construction and Building Trades
- Education, Social Sciences, Library Science, Counseling, and Social Services
- Health Related Occupations
- Hospitality and Tourism
- Information Media and Communications
- Management, Business, Commerce, and Finance
- Public Administration and Law
- The Sciences, Engineering, Architecture, Mathematics, and Industrial Occupations
The training should enhance the participant’s skills and expertise in their academic or occupational field, and cannot duplicate a participant’s prior work experience or training.
Interns and trainees cannot work:
- in unskilled or casual labor positions, or those that require more than 20 percent clerical or office support work,
- in positions that require or involve childcare or elder care, or those that involve patient care or contact.
The participant must meet one of the following requirements to be eligible for the J-1 program:
- The participant is enrolled at a non-U.S. higher education institution,
- and will complete training in the United States in the same field as their area of study with their host company.
OR
- The participant has graduated from a non-U.S. higher education institution within the past 12 months,
- and will complete training in the United States in the same field as their area of study with their host company.
AND
The participant must be a resident or a citizen of one of those countries:

- The participant has graduated from a non-U.S. higher education institution,
- has at least 1 year of full-time experience outside the U.S.A.,
- and will complete training in the United States in the same field as their experience and area of study with their host company.
OR
- The participant has at least 5 years of full-time experience outside the U.S.A.,
- and will complete training in the United States in the same field as their experience with their host company.
AND
The participant must be a resident or a citizen of one of those countries:
